Investing in Gold
Oct 2008: The premiums on gold coins have risen considerably than
the prices listed here with the increase depending upon the gold price, and the
supply and demand for gold coins. Also, we always deal in fractional gold
(1/10, 1/4 and 1/2 ounce sizes). Call our toll free number for quotes.
The American Gold Eagles

![]() |
This is the only gold coin backed by the U.S. Government for weight, content and purity, a beautiful investment which, over time, has often proven better than stocks, bonds or real estate. These are available in 1 oz., 1/2 oz., 1/4 oz. and 1/10th oz. We recommend only the 1 ounce Eagle for investment.
The premium is higher on the smaller coins. We carry all sizes.
The one ounce American Eagle is about $30 over the New York
gold spot price, a little less for quantities of 10 or more. The premium
over the gold price varies slightly with rising or falling metals markets.

The US Gold One Troy Ounce Buffalo
![]() |
![]() |
The US gold one troy ounce “Buffalo” was released in June 2006 to compete with the Canadian Maple Leaf and other pure gold coins. It is the first ever American coin that is .9999 pure gold. When these were first released it seemed “everyone” wanted some. This was written three months later and there since we have seen no great demand for the buffalo over any other. There are no fractional Buffaloes and none planned. They are available only in the one ounce size.
The current premium on this coin over the gold price is usually a bit higher, around $35 or more per troy ounce as there are few available on the secondary market. Dealers have to pay the high premium over gold that the US mint charges and pass it on.
We see no great advantage to owning this over any other one ounce gold coin. Our advice is still to buy the gold coin that has the smallest premium over the gold price

CANADIAN MAPLE LEAF
There is no gold bullion coin in the world that is purer than the
Canadian Maple Leaf The Maple Leaf will cost you about $30 per coin over the gold price. Thepremium varies slightly with the rising or falling metals market. |

KRUGERRAND
This coin has been minted by the South African government since
1967 with over 46 million ounces in circulation. The metal content and size of this coin is identical to the US gold Eagle. The premium on the one ounce Krugerrand is only about $10 over the gold price and varies slightly with falling or rising metal prices. We actually recommend this coin over all others due to the lower premium. Apartheid and the ban on the importation of Krugerrands way back when killed the premium on this coin. The ban on Krugerrands has been long since lifted but the premium has stayed low. |
